When the best known motoring theatre spectacular Top Gear Live visited St Petersburg in Russia, Lighting Designer Steve Sinclair used 38 x Robe Pointes on his lighting rig for the shows which were staged at the St Petersburg Sport & Concert Complex.
The Pointes, together with 20 x Robe ROBIN LEDWash 1200s, were supplied by one of Russia’s largest rental companies Euroshow - also based in St Petersburg - and were part of a lighting scheme that featured close to 400 fixtures.
The show saw legendary TV show hosts Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond add their irreverent and quirky humour to this extraordinary motoring theatre event, alongside some of the world's most expensive, powerful … and most absurdly modified cars.
The expansive arena floor – which is the stage for the energized and action packed show of stunts and precision driving – measured 110 metres wide by 50 metres deep, and flown above it was a network of 6 truss pods.
The Pointes were in groups of 6/7 fixtures dotted around 5 of the pods and used in Beam mode for traditional intense narrow beam looks, and with gobos for aerial style effects. The LEDWash 1200s were used as audience lighting – replacing generic Molefeys –a task for which they are ideal.
