Robe Show Lighting’s Chinese distributor Leifull Light & Sound Technology Co staged a seminar for all their dealers in Beijing that coincided with the first day of the PALM Expo 2007 China trade show.
Star speaker was leading UK lighting designer Durham Marenghi, who was also in Beijing to deliver an address to the Chinese Entertainment Technology Association about his lighting of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Marenghi was invited to make the same presentation at the Leifull seminar which was held at the Radisson SAS Hotel, right next door to the PALM Expo site.
“When we discovered that Durham was in town for the Association event the day before, we thought it was a great opportunity to also invite him to ours” says Leifull’s Chairman Dave Zhou. He added that there is currently intense interest in large and monumental show design in China, ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Marenghi – the only UK lighting designer to date to have created an Olympic opening/closing show - explained how he had used over 250 Robe ColorWash 1200 AT fixtures (among other manufacturers equipment) in his innovative and much talked-about lighting design for the 2006 event’s Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
The Leifull Seminar was kicked off by Robe Show Lighting’s International Sales Manager Harry von den Stemmen, who gave over 100 attendees a brief history of Robe’s origins and some explanations of to the company’s phenomenal growth and success since launching as an own-brand in 2002.
This was followed by Durham Marenghi’s presentation, and then the afternoon was closed by Robe’s business Development Manager Ingo Dombrowski, who offered a comprehensive product overview of the current Robe range.
Von den Stemmen states, “The Chinese market is an important one for Robe and one with massive potential. We saw this as a great opportunity to bring all Guangzhou-based Leifull’s various dealers from across the country up to speed with the latest Robe news”.
