Lighting Designer Butch Allen used Robe ROBIN 600 and 1200 LEDWashes on his rig for the ‘Boston Strong’ benefit concert, staged at the TD Garden Arena in Boston and featuring a truly stellar line up – including Aerosmith, New Kids on The Block, Boston, Godsmack and many more.
The event – streamed live on the internet - sold out in five minutes, and raised money for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.
Butch was involved early on in Boston Strong’s planning and production design. He and others donated their time and creative talents for free.
The event was run festival style with quick changeovers and specially tailored sets by the artists.
The lighting equipment - including the Robe fixtures - was supplied by East Coast Lighting & Production Services, based in Warwick, Rhode Island.
It was the first time that Butch has used Robe LEDWash fixtures. He had heard a lot about them and thought that this was an ideal opportunity to try them out.
The 12 x LEDWash 1200s were rigged overhead on the stage left and right truss wings, with the 12 x LEDWash 600s positioned on the deck. The 1200s were used for providing powerful back lighting onto the artists, and the 600s on the floor for low level cross-stage side lighting.
The show was operated by Rob Koenig using a grandMA2 full size console. Both Butch and Kevin were impressed with the zoom features and the brightness of both versions of LEDWash.
Several guest LDs were also in action for the show including Charlie ‘Cosmo’ Wilson (Aerosmith), Jesse Blevins (New Kids On The Block), Greg Maltby (Boston), Aaron Swetland (Jason Aldean), Ephraim Sosna (J Geils), Martin Favorite (Extreme) and Tom Wagstaff (James Taylor, Carol King And Jimmy Buffet).
