Robe ROBIN LEDWash 600 moving lights were specified by lighting designer Alex Junca for a catwalk show that he lit on the booth of leading lingerie brand Chantelle-Passionata at the Salon International de la Lingerie exhibition in Paris.
The 3 day event is one of the highest profile on the lingerie industry calendar, and took place at the Paris Expo, Port de Versailles.
Lighting equipment was supplied by Paris based rental company Impact Evènement. They have recently invested in the latest Robe ROBIN products including LEDWash 600s, and these were demonstrated to Junca who was looking for a bright, low powered fixture with a fabulous array of pastel colours and a full range of 'real' whites at different colour temperatures.
Having used LEDWash 600s on 2 previous events in Paris, Junca knew they were ideal fixtures for the Chantelle-Passionata project. He is also a renowned Director of Photography and works on many high profile international projects in the worlds of film and TV.
For Chantelle-Passionata, he was working for agency Graines d'Etolies and also closely with set designer Agnes Lancelle, Junca helped create a unique ambience for the booth which was a fusion of postmodernist pin-up and pop art aesthetics – reflecting the cheeky individuality and sassy sexiness of Chantelle-Passionata's Spring/Summer collection.
With a runway show every hour and intense media interest, it was essential to have a camera friendly lighting set up with a smooth even wash of tungsten all the way down the catwalk, plus variations of different pastels for additional depth and drama.
The LEDWash 600s were controlled from a grandMA console and proved to be the perfect solution for this application.
Junca explains that the light pollution in the exhibition space and around the stand was a major problem, and it was also around 6000K, so he used the variable colour temperature range of the LEDWash 600s to restore it to between 2700 - 8000° K along the runway. "This feature is an indispensable tool specially for film and video capture" he says.
In between the shows, the LEDWash 600s were used for washing the booth, with a selection of beautiful pastel colors.
The 12 LEDWashes were rigged on a trussing grid structure above the catwalk. Another key consideration was the size and weight of the units – as they needed to blend unobtrusively into the surroundings.
Junca remarks that they were also very reliable – a quality consistent with all Robe products of which he was already aware. Other impressive features include the homogenised light engine, the incredibly smooth colour mixing system and the substantial 15 - 60 degree zoom, all of which make the LEDWash 600 a good choice for this type of photographic and filmic environment.
He concludes, "LEDWash 600 is a product I have been waiting for and one that really matches my expectations as an LED wash fixture. It's indispensible for AV and filmic applications and TV studios, and for me, is the most optimized luminaire currently available for this sector. It's clear that Robe has really thought through their R 'n' D processes to bring unique, dynamic and very practical technology to the market".
