Over 100 Robe moving lights, including the new ROBIN MMX Spots and ROBIN 600 LEDWashes were specified by lighting designer Andreas Fuchs for the 24th European Film Awards, staged at the Tempodrom in Berlin.

The show – produced by the European Film Academy, presented by Anke Engelke was broadcast the following day on national channel ARTE and streamed live to more than 100 countries. It was attended by over 1000 VIP guests and about 150 press and media, and recognizes excellence in European cinematic achievements. Awards are given in over ten categories of which the most important is the Film of the year, won by Lars von Trier’s “Melancholia”.

All lighting for the 2011 Awards production was supplied by Berlin based production company, TSE AG, which has a large stock of Robe fixtures. At the end of 2011 they made a further major investment in the brand, adding Robe’s MMX Spot and LEDWash 600 units to their hire inventory, a decision based on their excellent experiences with the dynamic and reliable ColorWash, Spot and Beam 700 series.

The European Film Awards show featured 23 MMX Spots, 51 ROBIN 600 LEDWashes, 30 ColorSpot 700E ATs and 23 ColorWash 2500E ATs, all of which were distributed on overhead trusses with some on the stage floor. These – and all the other lighting for the show – were operated by Uli Weiss using a grandMA console.

Good use was made of the MMX’s dual graphic wheel to create sophisticated fluid texturing effects across the set and stage floor, while the LEDWashes were used to produce rich and full colour washes and fabulous colour mixes all over the stage. They also made much use of the LEDWash 600’s good range of ‘proper’ whites, and pastels, which make superb skin tones.
