The 2014 National Sun Party (Fiesta Nacional del Sol 2014) was staged at the “El Zonda” Eduardo Copello racing circuit in San Juan region, Argentina, complete with a lighting design by Félix Monti utilising Robe’s ROBIN LEDWash 1200s.

Twenty-four ROBIN LEDWash 1200s were positioned on the front of the stage to light the artist performances as well as the audience during the four day event.

This festival – in honour of the sun – takes place during the last week of February and is a showcase for local and regional cultures, supported by national and international artists. It also includes the selection of two beauty queens to  represent the region in other contents throughout the year.

This year Argentinian rock band Ciro y Los Persas, Colombian singer / songwriter Juanes and the Argentinian Peteco Carabajal were among the musical attractions.

A dual approach was taken with the lighting.

The designer initially specified cinema-type luminaires (2, 5 and 10K fresnels and 2K profiles) to focus on providing a ‘realistic’ style of lighting for the situations as they developed on the massive stage -  measuring nearly 200 metres  long and 150 metres wide.

The event’s technical production also wanted fixtures that brought movement, colour changing, zooming and effects into the live show equation – and this is where the Robes came in.

Carlos Marquez, in charge of the set-up and co-ordination between the lighting provider Adrián Condomi and the LD, had already worked with the LEDWash 1200 for other projects as freelance lighting designer.

He says, “To fulfil both requirements, we thought of the LEDWash 1200s as they are very powerful, have CTO options, a very good variability on the focus, precision movement and other features like  good colours, effects, speed, etc.”

Using Robe’s LED technology also enabled them to reduce energy consumption and brought other benefits like taking up less space in the truck … whilst at the same time being a great fixture and a very versatile lighting solution.

“Because of all of that, we agreed to use the LEDWash 1200s which  satisfied both our desires and those of the LD. It was a really wise choice … and I hope I’ll have the chance of working with these units again really soon”, Carlos concluded.
